    4 Excellent Temples from Japan

There are many Buddhist temples in Japan; one may also discover these lovely structures both in cities and in rural areas. Look at some of the better ones here.

    1. Kiyomizu-dera

Kiyomizu-dera is a Buddhist temple run independently in eastern Kyoto. It gets its name from a waterfall inside the temple complex and denotes either clean or clear water. Established in the Heian era, it is included on the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage list. Originally established in 778, the temple’s structures as seen now were built in 1633. The USP of this exquisite temple is that its building has not included any single nail. The temple’s structure is remarkable; there is a great hall with a large balcony projecting over the hillside and provides rather amazing city views. The ideal time to visit the temple is around holidays and the New Year as local stores offering festive treats and souvenirs occupy the grounds of the temple.

    1. Tōdai-ji

Tōdai-ji is another of the list of historic Japanese temples. One of the Seven Great Temples of Nara, Japan, this Buddhist temple complex is exquisite. Built-in 738 CE but first inaugurated in 752 CE, the temple’s USP is its monument hosed in the vast Buddha Hall. Buddha Vairocana, is the biggest bronze monument found anywhere. Including Japanese temples and shrines as well as other areas of the city of Nara, the temple is also included as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites as the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara. One may also visit the Tōdai-ji Culture Centre, which opened in 2011 and has an auditorium, library, research center, and museum with sculptures and riches.

    1. Sensory-ji

Should you be in Tokyo, Sensō-ji is among the most well-known ancient Buddhist temples you should visit. Apart from being a significant temple, Tokyo has the oldest Japanese one. The most often attended event in Tokyo, Sanja Matsuri, is the ideal time to visit it. Late spring hosts the celebration, which spans three to four days. The temple is viewed in full beauty as the streets around it are closed for this time from sunrise to evening! Another well-known sight here is the five-story Pagoda, next to the temple.

    1. Kinkaku-ji

Kinkaku-ji, meaning the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, is another amazing name on the list of Japanese temples. This Zen Buddhist monastery in Kyoto, Japan, draws a good volume of visitors annually. Announced as a National Special Historic Site, Kinkaku-ji is one of the sites comprising the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto and is a well-known construction in Japan. The temple’s USP is the three-story Golden Pavilion, the top two of which are coated with pure gold leaf. Built-in a Japanese walking garden, the pavilion spans a pond and features the relics of the Buddha in a lovely backdrop.
